B Bitch Pt 1 Report
24th March 2008
(This is a fantastic report - enjoy! Ed.)
Judge: Keith Wall
Ring Steward: Tom Linnell
41 entries, 21 ran
Thanks to MBCC Sheilagh Hyde, Jean Dawson and MBCC committee for their invitation to judge at this, their inaugural championship show. What a tremendous amount of disruption you had to contend with Sheilagh; it never showed though; you were the consummate show secretary/manager throughout. Celebratory cake and an Easter egg gift – tremendous.
Jean, I hope you managed to get through the day without too much pain; thoughts of dear Doug must have been with you all day long.
Not forgetting, senior stay steward Sheila Farris and her well drilled and able bodied stay stewards – thank you.
Grateful thanks are also due to Darren Savage, for acting so ably, as decoy steward.
We were treated to a welcome hot lunch with much hospitality and friendliness; thank you again: Tom and I had had a most enjoyable day with you.
Congratulations to all MBCC members, well done, you did yourselves proud.
Let’s hear it for all the hard working show committees up and down the length and breadth of the country who make our sport/hobby/pastime (make your own choice) possible.
I was indebted to Tom Linnell for agreeing to be my ring steward today. Tom had returned from 2 weeks in Cyprus only 24 hours before (where shorts and ‘T’ shirts were the order of the day, that was certainly not the case in Nottingham today), there must have been times when Tom was perished but he didn’t let it show and completed his stewarding stint faultlessly; thanks Tom.
The weather was a tremendous improvement on that of Good Friday, but even so, it was still quite cool, with plenty of cold sunshine and the occasional smattering very light snow showers.
Heelwork started at fast pace, followed by slow pace, a section of normal and then finishing with a very small section of slow pace, this to check that the teams could still concentrate after previously completing the 3 compulsory paces.
Retrieve was a yellow hard plastic tube; it presented very few problems to the teams.
Send-away was to 4 yellow pitch markers using the yellow ring post as a back marker. It was a very short distance (I measured 13 paces).
Scent a simple inverted ‘V’ pattern; handler’s cloth at the centre of the ‘V’, male decoy was at the end of one of the ‘V’ legs. Handlers facing their own cloth.
I thought that the depth of quality of work presented today was way above what I have experienced over recent times. Not wishing to detract from anyone in the line-up, you deserved what you got; but I could well imagine that the top 8 could be re-arranged on another day, you all presented rounds to be justifiably proud of, and I hope you are.
To competitors who did run, thank you for taking my decisions in a polite manner.
To the one competitor who thought I judged her harshly I can only claim:-
1. I tried to be consistent with a clear view of what I was looking for.
2. That we all have different perceptions of the perfection we seek and judge against.
3. The degree of deduction for deviation from that perceived perfection is open to interpretation.
I am sorry we disagree, but on reflection, unless my perception of perfection changes, I would still mark the same in the future.
Success and happiness to all teams.
1st. Mrs K Reynolds & Jenakir Golden Bombshell G Ret (dob 13/12/02) lost 5 ¾. Well Kay what a superb round you 2 treated us to today. I suspect this is what the majority of us train for, hope to achieve, and every now and again we experience it; and doesn’t it feel wonderful? Your round was stylish, energetic, controlled and above all else a superb team effort. I was delighted to award you the red card.Very many congratulations.
2nd. Mrs P Batham & Romeno Jigsaw GSD (dob 29/3/01) lost 6. Another superb team who give very little away, solid set exercises ensured that a well-deserved blue rosette was gained. Many congratulations.
3rd. Mrs S Howard & Kirkdale Minstrel BC (dob 11/10/98) lost 6 ½. Your initial round was quite the best, I believe, I have ever judged in any ‘B’ class; I hope that is some comfort? Best wishes for the future. Well done
4th. Mr J Verrill & Belpetilon New Lawn BSD (dob 23/5/01) lost 8 ¾. Congratulations on a well deserved place, very attentive bitch, a team who were a pleasure to watch and judge.
You old devil you ;-) Well done.
5th. Ms J Sutherland & Candlewind La Veneziana BC (dob 23/7/05) lost 9 ½. Jane, what a superbly patient job you are doing, in bringing this young lady on. She gains in confidence every time I see her and every time I have the pleasure of judging you. I am convinced that with a continuation of your technique you will achieve your desires. Well done on a lovely round.
Maybe a little early; but Chris’ and my very best wishes to you and Gerard for your coming marriage in August.
6th. Ms M Ward & Amazing Flyte To Fame WS (dob 4/10/05) lost 10 ¼. Another excellent preliminary set of exercises. Sure to go far.
