20/20 Clinic - May 1st 2010
The Border Collie Breed Council’s next 20/20 clinic will be held on May 1st 2010 at the Miners Welfare Centre, Moira.
DIRECTIONS: From M42 J11 take the A444 towards Burton on Trent. 3 miles into the village of Overseal, at the first speed camera turn right (signposted Moira). Travel 1 mile, under bridge, venue on right - Moira Miners Welfare (Bath Lane, Moira, Derbyshire, DE12 6BP).
OptiGen (CEA & CL tests for Border Collies plus a variety of tests for other breeds) offer a 20% discount for a minimum of 20 samples submitted. Dr Alan Wilton at the University of NSW has once again offered a discount on TNS & CL tests for Border Collies. Please see the relevant sections below.
We are again offering free blood draws for glaucoma research, to be sent to Alan Wilton – please contact me for further details. Bloods can be drawn from Border Collies failing the gonioscopy & their immediate relatives. Bloods will also be accepted by post but we are unable to cover your own vet fees this year.
PLEASE NOTE: All participants, both postal & those planning to use the veterinary facilities on the day, MUST pre-book with Sheila Gay either by email (sheila2020@darianbc.com - please note this is not my usual address, but one in use solely for this clinic) or by phone 01789 550888. We operate an appointment system & are unable to take new bookings on the day of the clinic - all such hopefuls will regrettably have to be turned away. If you need further information or assistance please contact me.

WAYS TO TAKE PART
At the clinic itself:
The veterinary charge for each blood sample taken will be £5 payable to the MBCC Treasurer either in cash or by cheque made payable to Midlands Border Collie Club. Those with non-Border Collies are also asked to contribute £3.00 per sample towards the freight charges for shipping the samples – payable in cash or cheque as above. If multiple blood samples (from the same dog) are required please let us know when you book your place/s.
Postal Participation:
If you cannot make it to the day, you can have blood taken by your own Vet and then sent on to me. If you decide to use Postal Participation, send samples plus paperwork to Mrs Sheila Gay, 24 Burbage Avenue, Stratford-on-Avon, Warks, CV37 0DU to arrive by Friday 30th April at the latest. Samples from non Border Collies sent in this way will still attract the £3.00 per sample contribution to the freight charges. Cheques for freight charges should be made payable to the Midlands Border Collie Club.
Important:
If you are having samples taken elsewhere and sending them to us by post PLEASE send them by SPECIAL DELIVERY. If your parcel doesn’t make it to us in time, you can claim compensation - which you will need if you have to start the whole process again & send fresh bloods as a private individual rather than as part of our clinic.
http://www.OptiGen.com/opt9_shipsubpg2.html - this page gives information on shipping your OptiGen samples and the type of container that is required for the sample. If necessary, print the page and take it to your vet if you plan Postal Participation.

OptiGen 20/20 Clinic - 'live' for online ordering from April 15th to May 1st 2010
All of the samples using the code for this clinic MUST arrive at OptiGen in one package to take advantage of the full discount available. The code for this clinic is BCCBC1051 and will be 'live' on the OptiGen website for online ordering from 15th April through to 1st May.
If you wish to run tests on samples already stored at OptiGen, OptiGen advise that you should order these online. When doing so, make sure you click the statement that says "sample already at OptiGen".
N.B. If you do not pre-pay online, you are still personally responsible for ensuring payment is made to OptiGen - The Breed Council does not handle OptiGen payments in any form. However, pre-paying when you order your test/s online earns you a further 5% discount.

TNS/CL Testing by Alan Wilton at UNSW
Bloods can be taken for the TNS & CL tests on the day. The charge for each sample draw is £5, payable as above.
Blood samples (on FTA cards) are very much preferred (although buccal swabs are acceptable).
Forms can be downloaded from the links below. Some spare forms will be available at the clinic, but it saves a great deal of time if you download & complete your forms before attending. If ONLY the CL test is required, please cross out TNS at the top of the form & substitute 'CL only'.
Payment:
The discounted price (for the TNS test $80 AUD & for the CL test $50 AUD) is only available for bulk orders, therefore the fees must be paid on the day to the MBCC Treasurer either in cash or by cheque made payable to the Midlands Border Collie Club. MBCC will then pay for all your TNS/CL tests as one bulk order. The day’s rate of exchange will have been calculated to give an accurate charge on the morning of 1st May.
Important:
Buccal swabs - to give the sample the best chance of being 'clean', please ensure that your dog has had nothing to eat or drink for an hour prior to the swab being taken. The dog should also not have had mouth contact with another dog.
