The Kennel Club Pastoral Group Judges Development Seminar 2009
The MBCC was invited to be the host breed club for the 2009 KC Judges Development Seminar at the KC building, Stoneleigh, on the 26th March 2009 and we were honoured to accept. Your committee and other enthusiasts gave up their day to provide the history of the breed and an explanation of how a collie should be constructed to be fit for function, and also provided 10 clean specimens of our breed for the candidates to assess.

We all had a very enjoyable day and went home very enlightened.
After the presentations, explanation of movement and examination of various examples of different types, colours and quality, the 5 candidates wrote a detailed critique on each dog and placed them in their order of merit. All these candidates were already Group judges and award CCs in many breeds. I was a member of a panel of four - two top all rounders appointed by the KC and two breed specialists. We were surprised with the outcome; only one candidate passed and four failed.

I must thank Toni Jackson for her presentation of our breed standard and a very interesting lecture, Sue Ader for providing the coloured examples, Alison for doing all the running with the movement examples, Becky G and Lesley for providing pristine examples, and last but not least Di, Anna, Chris and Joan for their supply of Border Collies.

Bob Tunnicliff, Chairman MBCC.
